The Fires of Smaug

This is a raid that takes coordination and the ability to follow instructions. It is a race against time, yet patience is key.

Group Makeup

VALVE GROUPS

  • Group A - 2 People of any class
  • Group B - 2 People of any class

RANGED DPS GROUP

  • 3 People (Combo of Htrs, RKs, LM, or Minis). Max DPS is a must !!!

MELEE DPS / VALVES WHEN NEEDED

  • 4 People (2 Captain and 2 Champs/Wardens) - these will also be part of the lever groups

The healers and tank will comprise the rest of the raid.

MECHANICS:

- There is a timer (yellow bar) and a smoke meter (red bar). If either run out before the boss is dead you fail the quest.

- Every 5% of the boss's health the valves (one top and one bottom) open 2 notches each and release smoke.

- Every 10% of the boss's health ads spawn (90%, 80%, 70%, etc ...)

- Every 25% of the boss's health a Fire Tender spawns and heals the boss (at 75%, 50%, 25%). The Fire Tender also reflects damage (T2 and T2C). The Fire Tender opens all valves (usually).

- Only focussing on the valves on the left side of the instance (top and bottom). Leave the ones on the right side alone. Some groups like to do the opposite.

VALVE GROUPS:

Group A will start up top. Group B will start at the bottom.

Within each group designate who pulls ahead of who and stick to it throughout the battle. If you both pull a lever at the same time it will bug it and the mouth can pop wide open.

You will stay in your sub-group at all times (A or B).

Once you pull a lever run to the other lever. If you get to the other lever and it is closed, run back to the other lever, and so on. You will be running back and forth between the levers throughout the battle. DRINK COFFEE before you start as the +10% run boost is very useful.


START OF BATTLE:

A Hunter starts the battle (a bubble on them or do not fall is very helpful).

The Tank grabs the adds. 1 MINI stays on the tank and 1 OFF HEAL stays on the Hunter tank.

At the start VALVE GROUP A and 2 others will start at the bottom lever. The 2 others will each pull the lever once (decide order ahead of time) BEFORE the VALVE GROUP does. VALVE GROUP B and 3 from the RANGED DPS GROUP will start at the top lever. The 3 others each pull the lever once BEFORE the VALVE GROUP does (decide order ahead of time).

The RANGED DPS GROUP will then burn the boss to 96% health and STOP - switch to ads.

Once the levers are closed the RANGED GROUP takes the boss to 91% and STOPS.

The "Start of the Battle" has been completed.


REST OF BATTLE

PHASE 2 RANGED GROUP burns the boss to 86% and STOPS; switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 76% health and STOPS; switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

86% - 76% 4

FIRE TENDER

(All Valves Open)

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 75% and STOP. FIRE TENDER SPAWNS.

RANGED (squishies) go to valves (2 top. 2 bottom) and all MELEE classes on FIRE TENDER until dead. Then resume regular roles again. Cappy drops Oathbreakers on boss after the tender goes down and the RANGED GROUP is back on him.

RANGED GROUP on boss after Fire Tender is dead (Oathbreakers will be on him).

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

75% 10
PHASE 4

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 71% health and STOPS; roll to 70% and switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

? - 70% 4
PHASE 5

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 66% health and STOPS; roll to 65% switch to ads (if any left).

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

70% - 65% 4
PHASE 6

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 61% health and STOPS; roll to 60 % and switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

65% - 60% 4
PHASE 7

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 56% health and STOPS; roll to 55% and switch to ads. Likely roll to 51% and STOP.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

60% - 51% 4

FIRE TENDER

(All Valves Open)

ADS

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 50% and STOP. FIRE TENDER SPAWNS.

OFF TANK needs to pick up the 3 ads that spawn near the fire tender and bring them to the tank.

RANGED (squishies) go to valves (2 top. 2 bottom) and all MELEE classes on FIRE TENDER until dead. Then resume regular roles again. Cappy drops Oathbreakers on boss after the tender goes down and the RANGED GROUP is back on him.

RANGED GROUP on boss after Fire Tender is dead (Oathbreakers will be on him).

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.
50% 10
PHASE 9

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 46% health and STOPS; roll to 45%.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

? - 45% 4
PHASE 10

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 41% health and STOPS; roll to 40% and switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

45% - 40% 4
PHASE 11

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 36% health and STOPS; roll to 35% and switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

40% - 35% 4
PHASE 12

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 31% health and STOPS; roll to 30% and switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

35% - 30% 4
PHASE 13

RANGED GROUP - Boss to 26% health and STOPS; switch to ads.

VALVE GROUP closes the valves.

30% - 26% 4

FIRE TENDER

(All Valves Open)

VALVE GROUP closes the valves and switch to the boss.

15% - 10% 4
PHASE 17 EVRYONE IS ON THE BOSS 10% - 5% 4
FINAL PHASE EVRYONE IS ON THE BOSS 5% - 0% 0

BUGGED VALVES

There are reports of the valves being bugged.

This particular strategy to avoid the bug seems sound:

Do not look at the lights above the dragon to determine whether the valve needs to be pulled. Look at the mouth of the dragon head ... if it is not completely closed then you need to pull a lever.

This is the no challenge method eh? Any idea of the mechanics for challenge? I was thinking hunter tank stays on boss while three teams break off on levers and ads. Thoughts?

Challenge is only T2. To get it no smoke enters the tunnels.
