re: 6 Man Pelargir Walkthrough

Return to Wiki Home

Hello All,

I (Dadi) have put together a write-up for Pelargir 6 Man. This is certainly not the only way to complete this Epic Battle, but it is my suggested method.

Group Makeup:

There is a minimum of two boss fights that require the group to take them down in under 45 seconds to achieve Platinum. For this reason, the group should be heavily DPS focused.

Rune-keeper (fire or lightning - some of the top DPS in the game at the moment)
Hunter (all around solid DPS)
Captain (great for debuffs / buffs)
Champ (great for AoE on sides)
Burglar (great debuffs)
Lore-master (dps and debuffs)
Warden (AoE and tankability)
Guardian (good for forced taunts and bleeds)
Beorning (I have not played one yet, not sure their strength)
Minstrel (decent DPS with the option to switch to heals)

The best strategy is to have:

- 1 class that can heal. This is important for phase 4 as there is one soldier (starts on the far right) that seems to be made of glass. It is important to keep him alive and the Commander orders alone may not be enough. This person can be at the fountain or ballista in Phase 2.

- 2 outright DPS classes (RK, Htr, or Chp) for the bosses

- 2 Debuff/DPS classes (Cpt, LM, Burg) for the bosses

- 1 of any class that can be at the fountain of ballista in Phase 2

Engineer / Officer / Vanguard?

This is a topic of great debate. I see most people traited as Engineer / Officer, and to be honest I think it is because many do not fully appreciate what Vanguard has to offer.

Vanguard is a huge asset to this battle for 3 reasons;

1) Stunning Bellow drops the boss health by 25%.

2) Rending Bark can add up to +50% incoming damage debuff to the boss

3) Damage Skill increases your outgoing damage by 15%

I suggest that you read my write-up on Vanguard (HERE)

BUILDS

2 Vanguard (These should be the two highest DPS classes) (SEE HERE FOR BUILD)

3 Engineer / Vanguard (SEE HERE FOR BUILD)

1 Engineer / Officer (SEE HERE FOR BUILD)

Preparation Before Launch:

- Eat food / use scroll / buff for Run Speed (+10%).
- Use +5% DPS scrolls
- Buff toons for max DPS (i.e. Sword Brother)
- Have poison pots (should always have all 4 pots, but poison is important) for Archer fight

Stages of the Battle:

PHASE ONE

Winch

This is a very straight forward (same as the solo version). It is not a side quest, and does not pop up on the screen with a progress etc. It is simply a battle that requires the winch to be protected. 3 people head to the far stairs on the other side of the winch (this allows Vanguards to build up Killstreaks), and 3 people stay on the near stairs. Drop 2 tripwires side by side on the stairs to prevent the mobs from getting by. As timers are up, add bear traps. Simply DPS them down, an easy fight.

PHASE TWO

Sides 1 and 2
- Both occur in the same general area.

Once the winch has been protected the gate (at the bottom of the stairs) will be lifted and you can pass to the next phase.

Setup

Commander:

One person switch the Commander to 2 handed weapon and target priority archer.

Ballista:

One person, usually a heavy class with less DPS (Guard works great) heads up the stairs to where the ballista is. Then build it, upgrade damage and speed. They then point it all the way down, and then swing it to the left such that it points at the edge of the left hand fence [Point of Reference: there is a corpse on the ground at this spot] (below where the main action is). Drop a bear trap at the foot of the ballista. During the side quests mobs will spawn near the ballista. They auto-aggro on you and the ballista. If you can force taunt them or do a quick DPS they will not target the ballista. It is important to not let them run away (if they do they end up going down the stairs to the fountain area). Your job is to keep them off the ballista, kill them, and fire the ballista. BTW: you can fight and use the ballista at the same time. Watch for Torch-bearers as they light the ballista on fire and need to be aggroed first. If the ballista catches on fire it needs to be extinguished (it is not usable while burning). You stay here the entire time for both side quests.

Trip Wires:

Three people need to sprint past the barricades to the gap in the fence and place tripwires in a line just in front of the gap to prevent the mobs from getting through.

Barricades:

Quickly dismantle the 4 barricades. Bring them to just in front of the gap between the fence. On the left edge of the fence you will see a corpse on the ground, the barricade should be placed between the fence and the corpse (this is precisely the spot that the ballista is aimed at). Line the other barricades up to protect the gap in the fence. Upgrade the damage.

Fountain:

There is a fountain just inside the first gate that you enter from (near the base of the stairs). One person, usually a ranged DPS (Htr, LM, Mini) takes this area. There is a blue door on the back wall (it does not open, just a graphic), a tripwire needs to be placed here and kept up during the side quests. If the Ballista Person lets any mobs by they will come down the stairs to the left of the blue door. This should not happen, but keep an eye for it. It is pretty easy here until the boss for the side quest pops, at that point about 5 mobs spawn at once. Any mob that gets by tries to either burn the supplies (around the fountain) or kill the citizens. DPS them down, if supplies are on fire be sure to extinguish them. Supplies can be healed (by healing classes) and citizens can be healed by clicking on them. One person stays here for both side quests.

Side Quest 1 (Either Parade of Thieves or Backs to the Wall)

Side Quest 1a - Parade of Thieves

Easy side quest. Two ranged DPS stand in the area in front of the right wall (between the right fence and the right wall). Pillagers will come out of a door of the building on the right side. Simply DPS them down. You need to kill 10 Pillagers before they escape (this is a LONG way - all the way to the Backs to the Wall area so there is plenty of time). In between Pillager spawns turn around and pick off some mobs. There are two markers that appear on the map (one is to the far left and one where I have described), ignore the left one as nothing happens there. The other two people stay at the gap in the fence making sure trip wires are replenished and DPSing the mobs.

Before, and during this side quest you should have two people (one at each section of the wall) removing the grappling hooks. This prevents the next side quest popping too soon (and having two going at once).

Side Quest 1b - Backs to the Wall

This side quest occurs to the far left (look for the marker on the map). Two DPSers head off to the area and begin taking down the mobs. Drop tripwires near the blue door (spawn point). They are trying to attack the civilians (heal them if needed by clicking on them). The other two people stay at the gap in the fence making sure trip wires are replenished and DPSing the mobs.

Before, and during this side quest you should have two people (one at each section of the wall) removing the grappling hooks. This prevents the next side quest popping too soon (and having two going at once).

Side Quest 2 (Either Ugturu the Half-troll or Kang-kethek the Sorcerer)

Side Quest 2a - Ugturu the Half-troll

From the time he spawns you have 45s to kill him in order to get platinum. He spawns out of the same blue door from the Backs to the Wall side quest. Have bear traps dropped in a pile here before he spawns. The 4 DPS classes (side quests) need to be ready in range of the spawn spot and be ready with max DPS. Whoever he aggros on needs to try pull him back to the barricade on the far left of the fence gap (where the ballista is aimed), but do so while DPSing (If moving him compromises DPS, DPS takes priority over moving him). Unleash any debuffs on the mob / DPS buffs on the group. The ballista person needs to be 100% focused on cranking out shots on the Half-troll (if the group can drag him in range). This is a mad DPS race. He does massive frontal AoE damage, so stay either well back (ranged) or behind him (melee).

If you have two Vanguards in the group; one unleash Stunning Below and the other Rending Bark.

Side Quest 2b - Kang-kethek the Sorcerer

From the time he spawns you have 45s to kill him in order to get platinum. He spawns to the right of the debris pile (in front of the gap between the fence) just in front of the wall. Drop a pile of bear traps at the spawn point. The 4 DPS classes (side quests) need to be ready in range of the spawn spot and be ready with max DPS. Whoever he aggros on needs to pull him back to the barricade on the far left of the fence gap (where the ballista is aimed) but do so while DPSing. Unleash any debufs on the mob / DPS buffs on the group. The ballista person needs to be 100% focused on cranking out shots on the Half-troll. This is a mad DPS race.

If you have two Vanguards in the group; one unleash Stunning Below and the other Rending Bark.

Last Boss (Forget His Name):

This is not a side quest (and there is no timer on killing him), but it is needed to kill him to advance to the next phase. He spawns to the right of the debris pile (in front of the gap between the fence) just in front of the wall. DPS him down.

Before Phase Three:

Once the last boss is down the soldiers will run off to the right and open the gate so you can proceed to the next stage. Be sure to pick up all the barricades !!! The ballista person uses the rope (near the ballista) to get to the bottom (much faster). As long as no one passes the NPCs the Big Battle will not advance to Phase 3, this is a good opportunity for AFKs etc.

PHASE THREE

Sides 3 and 4

Setup

a) As you run through the gate there will be a group of soldiers that run down some stairs on the right to join you, one person needs to switch the Commander to 2 Handed Weapons and target priority Warriors.

b) Carry on and DPS the small group of mobs (easy).

c) Just before you enter the last gate (to the main wall with the 2 catapults) there is a small alcove to the left with a small half wall. Place one barricade parallel to the wall about 2 feet away. Everyone drop bear traps in the same spot.

d) Everyone enter the main wall and begin constructing the 2 catapults. Upgrade the armour on both. The one on the far side; upgrade speed and damage (can be used to shoot mobs below and speed up the start of side quest and after the ghosts appear).

e) Drop the 3 remaining barricades parallel to the main wall in a line.

f) Ensure the Commander is set to 2 Handed Weapons and target priority Warriors.

g) Side quest team (3 DPSers) heads back to the small alcove and waits. Add more bear traps if cool down is up.

Side Quest 3 (Either Thrice-blown Horn or Ship-slaves)

During the side quest there will be 3 people that stay on the main wall to protect the catapults, spam damage / heal on the Commander, and DPS mobs coming over the wall.

Side Quest 3a - Thrice-blown Horn

This is an easy side. All 3 DPSers should already be standing at the spawn point; this is where we placed the barricade and the bear traps. The first Scout spawns opposite the spot we placed the barricade. Burn him down. Then there will be a group of mobs that spawn in front of the half wall; single out the Scout and DPS him down fast. Kill the rest. Next wave, same thing. Once all 3 Scouts are down you are done.

Side Quest 3b - Ship-slaves

Head back toward the the last Phase in 2 groups of 2 (A and B). You need to quickly free 6 slaves (randomly spawn in 6 locations) and ensure they survive. I have included some possible spawn spots [denoted by a ring on the map] (there are more and I will add them soon).

Group A (two DPS) - Two people continue on the main level (you will see NPCs with rings over their heads); one person aggros the mobs and the other clicks the NPC. The mobs easily interrupt the freeing of the slaves, so keep them away from the player doing this. Carry on to the next one. Once you have freed the ones on the lower level, head up the stairs to help Group B.

Group B (two DPS)
- Two people continue on the main level and then head up the stairs on the left, one person aggros the mobs and the other clicks the NPCs. Work around the upper level in a clockwise fashion. The mobs easily interrupt the freeing of the slaves, so keep them away from the player doing this. Carry on to the next one.

Once all six slaves have been freed and the quest completes, 1 person quickly heads back to the main wall (you can ride a horse) and assist with repairing catapults etc. and then waits on their horse by the Minstrel Spawn Spot, the other three wait on their horses by the blue door outside the gate to Phase 4 (Archer Spawn Spot).

Side Quest 4 (Either Archer Thisarti or Okurayo the Minstrel)

Immediately following Side Quest 3;

Three people from the DPS Team wait on their horses by the blue door outside the gate to Phase 4 (Archer Spawn Spot).

1 person from the DPS Team quickly heads back to the main wall (you can ride a horse) and assist with repairing catapults etc. and then waits on their horse by the Minstrel Spawn Spot.

I am not yet aware of a way to tell for sure which of the two side quests will pop. As such, be prepared for either.

Group A (3 DPSers) - Three people wait at the Archer spawn point (blue door beside the Thrice-blown Horn spawn spot). Drop bear traps. Get on your horse and wait.

Group B (1 DPSer) - 1 person waits at the Minstrel spawn point (near the far right side of the wall). Drop bear traps. Get on your horse and wait.

The remaining 2 people stay on the main wall. If the Minstrel pops they can help with the DPS if things on the wall are in good shape. They should NOT run to the Archer (it is too far away).

Side Quest 4a - Archer Thisarti

Group A dismounts immediately and begins DPS. Drag the archer in to the bear traps. Group B rides like the wind to the Archer, dismount and DPS. You have 45s to kill him in order to get platinum. Watch for POISON, it kills you fast !!! Pot it or use a skill to remove it. Hunters have a skill to do this for the entire fellow.

If you have two Vanguards in the group; one unleash Stunning Below and the other Rending Bark.

Side Quest 4b - Okurayo the Minstrel

Group B dismounts immediately and begins DPS. Drag the Minstrel in to the bear traps. Group A rides like the wind to the Archer, dismount and DPS. You have 45s to kill him in order to get platinum. If the wall is in good shape the other 2 people can assist.

If you have two Vanguards in the group; one unleash Stunning Below and the other Rending Bark.

Final Boss - Zagarôth

This is not a side quest, but he needs to be killed (not sure if a timer applies for the overall rank of the Big Battle).  Drop bear traps. He spawns on the main wall (a little right of centre).

SIDE QUEST ORDER:

Thus far I have not yet seen a defined pattern for the order in which the side quests pop. If anyone has input on this, please share.

Fabulous as usual! Its a bit hard to read with it going off screen. Is there any way to make it fit better?

Wow, thanks Dadi.  An alternate place to stand when defending the fountain area for RANGED toons is to the right of the spawn door so that you can see both the door and the stairs in case any sneak through from balista.  Doesn't make sense for melee though since it's too far to snap up a few stair sneakers.

I think you mean left (when facing the door)?

I try and stand just left of the door (when facing it) and as a ranged DPS you can reach both the stairs and the door.  The only time any should get by the ballista is if that person jumps down to help with the Sorcerer and that should be announced so the fountain person can be ready.

Nope, I meant to the right of the door when facing it. Perhaps mini and hunter range is better than RK...that'd be fun to test out one day. Be great to have some advantage over RK OP'ness.

Also the side quest teams should repair the cats and heal that delicate soldier in between stuff.

Having two people in Vanguard, 1 who can switch between officer and Engineer, and 4 pure engineer is a great way to keep everything under control...

The two in Vanguard should high dps classes to get the kill streaks in

1. Vanguard will use Bellowing Stun As soon as the boss gets up (Knocks off between 140-180k right off the top)

1. Vanguard will use Rending Bark (32% I have been able to trait for) and will use every 15 seconds

1. Officer/Engineer will switch commanders and heal either citizens or soldiers and place trip wires

Remaining 3 Engineers can decon barricades / upgrade and use trip wires.

Telling Mark, Blade Brother, Oath Breakers, and Damage Banner (Capt) + Rending Bark + Revealing Weakness (Burg) + Bear Traps == All make the really high dps classes doing even more...

For example: I got a 46k Upshot on the 1st boss when everything above was active, which is great with the mits on these bad boys...

But when you face the door the stairs are on the left.  Why would you stand to the right, it is farther away?

So I can see everything :)  With trip wires, bear traps, and hunter traps I do very little moving around. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

It appears that the Bellowing Stun is reducing morale by 25%.  Be interesting to see if this can be done more than once in a battle.

So where is the second catapult (the one that had its speed/damage upgraded) pointing in Phase 4?  To the middle where the mobs are coming up the wall?

We use it to speed up the start of the side quests (shoot mobs below) once everyone is in place.  You can also use it when the ghosts come to speed up the spawn of Zagaroth.

I am anything but a BB expert, but when I ran this with Mel/Reg they intentionally did not build the ballista until after the quest was done to prevent damage to it. Comments, please.

You can do it that way too, but it is riskier and requires a bit more coordination.
